Why You’ll Love This Crown Apple Margarita Recipe
The Crown Apple Margarita is quick and easy to make and requires only a handful of common margarita ingredients plus a bottle of flavored apple whiskey which you might already have on your home bar. Ingredients
- 1 oz Crown Royal Regal Apple Whiskey
- 1 oz Reposado tequila
- 1 oz lime juice
- 1 oz Triple Sec
If you don’t have Crown Apple, I definitely think it’s worth getting a small bottle to make this margarita recipe. While I don’t typically love to buy specialty bottles of liquor, this is really more versatile than you might think and there are plenty of Crown Apple drinks you can make with this flavored whiskey.
Because whiskey can be a strong flavor we used reposado tequila (sometimes called gold tequila). Reposado tequila is more aged than blanco (white tequila) so it has a little bit more of a complex flavor. But you can use whatever you have at home.
You can use whatever kind of orange liqueur you have on hand for this recipe. We always have Triple Sec around because it’s a staple of any margarita. It’s also inexpensive.

How to Make a Crown Apple Margarita
Rim the glass
Rim a margarita glass. I love the spiced sugar rim we did which was sweet and also had spice notes that pair really well with apples like nutmeg and cinnamon. But you can use salt if you prefer. For more detail read “How to Salt a Margarita Glass.”
Step 1
Add Crown Royal Apple whiskey, Reposado tequila, fresh lime juice and orange liqueur to a cocktail shaker.
Step 2
Add ice and shake the mixture vigorously for about 15-20 seconds.
Step 3
Strain the contents into a spiced sugar-rimmed margarita glass filled with ice.
Step 4
Garnish with a slice of apple or a lime wedge.
Tips
- In fall, an añejo tequila will give this recipe even more complexity and flavor. And for summer, you can try it with blanco tequila to keep it as crisp and refreshing as possible.
- If you don’t want to buy a bottle of Crown Royal Apple you can use apple juice instead. The drink will be less boozy and have a less crisp apple flavor but it would still be delicious. My favorite apple juice is the Tree Top Honeycrisp Apple Juice.
- Change up the garnish depending on the time of year. In Summer, use a slice of green apple or lime wheel. In winter, add a few cinnamon sticks along with thin apple slices for a fun presentation. (This would really be a great Thanksgiving margarita!).

Crown Apple Margarita FAQs
While regular Crown Royal can be used, it will alter the flavor profile significantly. Crown Royal Apple adds a distinct apple essence that complements the margarita perfectly.
To create a non-alcoholic version of the Crown Apple Margarita, you can substitute the Crown Royal Apple with non-alcoholic apple cider or apple juice for the apple flavor, while a non-alcoholic tequila alternative can be used to mimic the overall profile of the cocktail.
