Why You’ll Love This Recipe for Cucumber Margarita
This recipe for a cucumber margarita tastes absolutely amazing! Adding cucumbers to the classic tequila, orange liqueur, and fresh lime juice combination gives it a deliciously herbaceous touch that isn’t too overwhelming.
It’s, like, really good.
- While this drink is full of refreshing cucumber flavor the taste of the tequila still comes through nicely.
- It’s not overly sweet which makes it super nice to sip on a hot day (although Suzy likes to sweeten it up with a little bit of agave).
- It’s super easy to make and aside from removing the peel, the blender does all the work.
- This cucumber margarita has a bit of a different texture. While you use the blender to liquify the cucumber, the ice isn’t blended so it’s not considered a frozen margarita. I don’t tend to love frozen margs.
- This is a great flavored margarita to share with friends! Since you need to get out the blender to break up the cucumbers, it’s easy to make these for a crowd!
We drank this a Tajin rim, and the slightly spicy and sweet seasoning provided a nice counterpoint to the flavors of the cucumber margarita.

Ingredients
- Tequila: We used Hornitos Plata to make this recipe for cucumber margarita. It has an agave-forward, lively taste with fruity and herbal notes that meld so well with cucumbers! You can use your favorite silver tequila for this recipe, but you can also try it with Reposado and Añejo if those are what you have in your bar.
- Triple Sec: Triple Sec is our go-to orange liqueur for this recipe to lend it some sweetness and vibrancy. You can also use Cointreau if you prefer your drink to have a more sophisticated, fancier edge.
- Fresh Lime Juice: Fresh lime juice is a must for making great margaritas, including this easy cucumber margarita recipe. You can’t replicate its natural freshness with bottled juices!
- Fresh Cucumbers: Use whatever type of cucumber you have; both regular and English cucumbers would work well here.

How to Make Cucumber Margarita with Tajin Recipe
Rim the Margarita Glass
Add some Tajin seasoning to a margarita plate. Next, moisten the rim of a margarita glass with a lime wedge.
Dip the moistened rim to the plate and rotate it to ensure the glass becomes fully coated with the seasoning. Add ice, then set aside.
Step 1
Add the peeled and rough chopped cucumber pieces to the blender and blend for several seconds.
Step 2
Add the lime juice, tequila, and Triple Sec to the blender. Blend for several seconds more.
Step 3
Using a Hawthorne strainer, strain the margarita into the glass with ice and the Tajin rim. Garnish with skewered cucumber skin on top. Serve and enjoy.
Tips
- When blending the cucumber with the other ingredients, you can add a splash of water for consistency if you feel it’s a little too thick (less is more so you don’t dilute the flavor).
- If you prefer using a cocktail shaker instead of a blender, you can muddle the cucumbers first to extract the juices, then add the rest of the ingredients to the shaker. Shake well, then strain the mixture into the margarita glass.
- This recipe also works with a salted rim.
- Garnish the drink with thin cucumber slices instead of the skin if desired.
- You can strain the cucumber chunks through a fine mesh sieve, after blending, to remove the solids and end up with the juice. I don’t care to take that step but if you want a more traditional texture of a margarita, you can do this.
- These are easy to make for a crowd. Just figure about 1/2 cucumber per margarita.
Variations to Try
Frequently Asked Questions
English cucumbers are great to use for cocktails since they are tasty and mildly sweet, plus the seeds aren’t bitter so you don’t have to scoop them out before blending them.
To muddle a cucumber slice, you can use either a muddler or the back of a spoon to crush the pieces in a glass or cocktail shaker. Doing this will allow the cucumber to release its juices and flavor. It’s supposed to be done gently, but you really don’t have to be all that careful.
Not a fan of the taste of tequila? You can try using vodka instead. Here’s a vodka margarita recipe you can try.
