Made with green juice, this colorful margarita is a refreshing, slightly sweet, and mildly fruity concoction that’s totally easy to make. Best of all, no food coloring is needed. Why You’ll Love This Margarita Recipe
Green margaritas not only look super fun but they taste amazing. We used our classic 3-ingredient margarita recipe plus a fruit-forward green juice to give this margarita its green color and tasty flavor.
I think you’ll be surprised how totally sippable this marg is. I mean, green juice isn’t the first thing I’d grab when I’m looking to indulge but it’s absolutely delish in this margarita. It adds an extra layer of complexity and depth to our favorite tequila cocktail.
A green juice margarita is remarkably easy to prepare. With just a few ingredients and some simple steps, you can whip one up quickly. Margaritas are one of the easiest cocktails to make and this one is no different! I bet it will be one of your favorite new recipes.

Ingredients
- Green Juice
- Tequila (we used blanco)
- Triple Sec
- Fresh squeezed lime juice
- Lime wedge and Tajin for rim, optional
For the best flavor and color, use a green juice that contains a blend of fruits and leafy greens. This will ensure that your margarita has a refreshing and mildly fruity taste, as well as a vibrant green hue.
We used Evolution Farms Super Fruit Greens which has orange mango pineapple, cucumber, celery, spinach and romaine. It’s a perfect choice. You can probably also use Green Machine since I know my kids drink it and they like sweet things.
If you can’t find Super Green Juice, you can substitute it with a combination of green juice (one with more of a leafy greens focus) and a splash of orange juice for added sweetness and fruit flavor.
Like with our other margarita recipes, use your favorite brand of tequila. A blanco or silver tequila works well, as it allows the flavors of the green juice and other ingredients to shine through (but you can also use reposado). We used Casamigos Blanco which is good in cocktails (I don’t love to sip it on its own).
You can use your favorite orange liqueur or whatever orange liqueur you have on hand. Triple Sec is super common and pretty inexpensive but I love the flavor of Cointreau.
Fresh lime juice is a MUST for any good margarita. It really helps to brighten up the recipe and balance the flavors.
NOTE: If you prefer a different shade of green, you can play around with a few drops of green food coloring. But one of the reasons I like this green margarita recipe is because it doesn’t use food coloring.

Serve this Green Margarita recipe for your St. Patrick’s Day party, neighborhood happy hour or any colorful party.
Tips
- You may need to adjust the sweetness of your green margarita by varying the amount of orange liqueur or adding simple syrup or agave nectar to taste. Green juice does have a fair amount of sugar in it due to the fruit juice, but each one will taste different.
- Get creative with your garnishes. A Tajín rim adds a zesty kick, while a lime wedge or cucumber slice adds even more green color. Experiment with different garnishes to find your favorite combination.
- You can make your own green juice if juicing is something you already do. Fresh ingredients are always more delicious but juicing is daunting. I would not try it just for this recipe. Clean-up is the WORST.
- If you want to, you can add edible green glitter to really give this a holiday-ready look.
Variations to Try
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use a different type of green juice for this recipe?
Yes, you can experiment with different types of green juice to customize your margarita. While Super Green Juice adds a delicious blend of fruits and leafy greens, you can also try a different one. Just be mindful that you want one with lots of fruits and not just greens.
I’m not a fan of tequila. Can I substitute it with something else?
Certainly! If you’re not a fan of tequila, you can substitute it with vodka for a different twist on the classic margarita (a vodka margarita is a thing!). You can try white rum or gin too. Try different spirits until you find your perfect match.
What’s the best way to achieve the vibrant green color of the margarita?
The green color of the margarita comes from the Super Green Juice. Just make sure you like the color of the juice in the bottle before you buy it since that is what color your drink will be. You can enhance the sipping experience a little more by adding a variety of green garnishes. The more, the better (think crazy bloody-mary-type garnishes).
