Serve a delicious Deadpool margarita during movie nights, get-togethers with friends, or any spring or summer parties you might host. If you or anyone you know is a fan of X-Men films and Marvel comics, then this drink is a must-try!

You may have noticed the yellow cocktail in the first image. That’s our Wolverine margarita!

Ingredients

Bottles of Aviation Gin, Patron Silver tequila, and Triple Sec orange liqueur behind containers of cranberry and grapefruit juice and a fresh lime on top of a counter.
What you need to make this Deadpool drink.

We used Aviation Gin to make this Deadpool Margarita. It’s the brand of the gin that’s co-owned by actor Ryan Reynolds, who also plays Deadpool in the movies. So we felt this gin was perfect to use in a margarita to pay homage to his character (Suzy loves Deadpool!). It gives the drink some nice botanical and bitter notes that we liked. If you don’t have Aviation Gin, feel free to use whatever brand of gin you have around when making this recipe.

For the tequila, we used Patron Silver. It’s another movie-inspired choice since the characters are seen drinking it in the film. This tequila has a smooth and sweet taste with a citrus aroma that goes so well with the grapefruit, and lime flavors of this margarita. But, just like with the gin, you can use your favorite tequila brand or whatever you have in your bar. You can even try this recipe with a Reposado instead of Blanco.

Triple Sec is our go-to orange liqueur for adding some delicious sweetness and slight orange flavor to this cocktail recipe. You can also try making this drink with either Cointreau or Grand Marnier if you prefer.

The cranberry juice adds a sweet and sour edge to this margarita. It also has a nice red color that’s perfect for making a Deadpool drink, although we did add a bit more food coloring to make the shade even more eye-catching.

We also added grapefruit juice to the cocktail. It adds a citrusy note and some bitterness that complements the gin.

Serving Idea

We liked the idea of serving these two Marvel margaritas as tasters so you could have both and not be super lit. You’ll notice our glasses are much smaller than usual. We did a 1/2 serving of this recipe and a 1/2 serving of the Wolverine margarita.

Tips

  • Adding a little bit of simple syrup or agave would help to balance the flavors, but the amount you use will depend on how sweet you like your drink. I would add about 1/4 oz. to start and taste again. Suzy would start at 1/2 oz of sweetener.
  • If you want, you can chill your glasses in the freezer before using. Cold glasses will help enhance your drinking experience and make it more enjoyable.
  • You can also use a grapefruit wedge to garnish the drink.
  • To make half a serving, just use half the amount of all the ingredients.

Variations to Try

  • MAKE IT SPICY – To give your Deadpool margarita a fiery kick, either muddle some jalapeno peppers in the cocktail shaker..
  • REPLACE THE GIN – You can use vodka instead of the gin or leave it out altogether.
  • MAKE A MOCKTAIL – Swap gin, tequila, and Triple Sec with their alcohol-free counterparts and enjoy a non-alcoholic version of the drink.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I substitute tequila in a margarita?

Yes. Vodka is often used as a tequila substitute when making margaritas. Or, since this drink also has gin, you can just use that on its own.

How can I make this drink more visually appealing?

You can try using black Hawaiian sea salt to rim your glass for a bolder look! You can also serve this drink in these cool Deadpool glasses.

Is Aviation Gin good for cocktails?

We loved using it when making this margarita, so I’d say yes! But it’s also quite enjoyable when sipped neat or on the rocks.
