We used Santa Cruz strawberry lemonade since it has a more natural, mild strawberry flavor. The flavor may change slightly if you use another type of strawberry lemonade.

I prefer Blanco tequila for strawberry margaritas, but go ahead and use whatever type you have. We used Jose Cuervo Tradicional.

Triple Sec is an orange liqueur that most people have on hand, especially if they like making margaritas at home. But you can use any other orange liqueur that you have or prefer. I LOVE Cointreau in my margs.

Suzy likes her margaritas a little sweeter but thought the sugar rim added enough extra sweetness for her.

Tips

  • You can muddle some fresh strawberries with the strawberry lemonade to give this summer cocktail slightly more strawberry flavor. However, fresh strawberries have less flavor than you would think, especially if they’re picked too early or water-logged.
  • If you don’t have fresh strawberries, frozen strawberries can also work as an add-on to this recipe. It’s up to you if you want to defrost them or not.
  • You can adjust the amount of alcohol that you put in. For a classic drink use 2 ounces of tequila. For something less strong, you can use less.

Variations to Try

  • FROZEN MARGARITA: To make frozen strawberry lemonade margaritas, you can add all the ingredients into a blender along with 2 cups of ice. Blend and process until smooth. Alternatively, you can use a can of frozen lemonade instead of ice if you’d like!
  • SWEETER MARGARITA: If you like your margarita sweet, you can add about 1/2 – 1 ounce of simple syrup or other sweetener.
  • MORE BERRIES: Add any fresh berry of your choice, like blueberries, raspberries, cranberries, etc. to give this margarita for Easter even more fruit flavor.
  • MAKE A MOCKTAIL VERSION: If you or your friends don’t drink, you can easily make a non-alcoholic version of this great margarita. Just skip the alcohol and blend the strawberry lemonade, lime juice, and then add a touch of club soda. Serve over or blended with ice. You can also sub the tequila for a zero-proof alternative like Seedlip Notas de Agave. Or follow this Seedlip Margarita recipe.
  • CITRUS SWAP: Also, you can swap orange juice or lemon juice for lime juice if you’re out.
  • SALT RIM: Don’t want a sweet rim? Try salt instead! Here’s how to salt rim a margarita glass.
