We Tried the Jose Cuervo Margarita Mix

Jose Cuervo Lime Margarita Mix is one of the most popular margarita mixes out there, and for some, this is their go-to margarita mix.

Although nothing beats a fresh, homemade margarita, Suzy and I also love to try all the margarita products on the market. Margarita mixes are great to use at home when you want something super simple. These are also great for making drinks for a crowd.

This is the recipe from the back of the margarita mix bottle:

Directions

Jose Cuervo margarita mix in a jigger and poured into a cocktail glass with a salt rim.
  1. Rim the glass with a margarita salt rim.
  2. Add ice to the serving glass (or you can use a traditional margarita glass).
  3. Add the tequila and margarita mix to the glass with a jigger.
  4. Give it a stir with a bar spoon.
  5. Garnish with a slice of lime.

Tip: If you want to make sure it’s nice and cold you can mix the tequila and mix with ice in a shaker and strain over the ice in your serving glass.

Tasting Notes

A woman squeezing a lime over a glass of margarita with salt rim.

We were pleasantly surprised by this one. The tangy flavor was evident on the first sip, and we liked its smooth flavor.

We both agreed that the Jose Cuervo margarita mix is flavorful. It has the aroma of pressed lime peel with a sweet orange finish. However, we also both agreed that there is a bit of artificial taste to it that overpowers the lime flavor.

Suzy wanted more tartness, so we added a squeeze of fresh lime juice, which made the mix even better! The added acidity blended perfectly with the smooth finish.

We used 2 ounces of tequila because our favorite classic margarita uses 2 ounces. However, if you don’t like it as boozy as we do, you can follow the recipe or dial down the alcohol further.

Suzy likes her margarita on the sweeter side, so she liked the sweetness of the margarita mix. On the other hand, I prefer tart and natural flavors, so it was just okay for me. When we added the tequila and lime, I liked it a lot better. Also, doing a salt rim was a nice counter point.

Where to Buy

You can buy Jose Cuervo Margarita Mix online through the official online shop and other online retailers. You can also buy it at your local liquor stores and grocery stores. This product is not hard to find. If you need help locating a store near you, you can check out their store locator.

Overall Rating and Conclusion

We are giving this a 3 out of 5 rating. Nothing really beats freshly made tequila because of the potent flavors of fresh lime and orange liqueur, but this is a convenient option that is packed with flavor if you need something quick and easy.

It is affordably priced for the amount you get. It’s flavorful, easy to find and buy, and can be a quick fix to your margarita cravings. All in all, we say it was a good experience.
