Let’s talk about Mayenda Tequila.

Why We’re Reviewing Mayenda Tequila

Mayenda Tequila is a quality blanco tequila that is the perfect choice for crafting delicious margaritas or sipping over ice.

Suzy had a bottle of Mayenda, and it was one of the first bottles we tried when we started creating All About Margaritas. The bottle is gorgeous, the label is well-designed, and the good news is, that the tequila is also delicious.

One key reason to consider using Mayenda Tequila in your margaritas is its outstanding quality. Made from 100% blue agave, this tequila boasts a smooth and rich flavor profile that perfectly complements the vibrant citrus notes of a classic margarita.

The careful craftsmanship and attention to detail put into every bottle ensure a consistently high-quality product that guarantees a truly delightful drinking experience.

Mayenda is fairly easy to find at your local Total Wine store. I haven’t seen it in any of my grocery stores, but you should keep your eyes out if you are in a higher-end store. You may also find it in a smaller liquor store. It’s also available online, so you can have it shipped if you want to give this bottle a try.

Whether you’re hosting a party (use our fun Cinco de Mayo printable decorations!) or simply enjoying a margarita at home, Mayenda offers a great taste and quality that you’ll love.

Our Qualifications: At All About Margaritas, we take our margaritas seriously. With years of experience crafting and tasting cocktails, Sharon and Suzy are on a mission to find the best tequilas out there. We may not be professional mixologists, but we sure know our way around a margarita glass!

Mayenda Tequila Company Info

Mayenda Tequila is made in a distillery located in Jalisco, Mexico. This tequila brand is known for its exceptional craftsmanship and dedication to producing high-quality spirits which includes 2 additional steps to create a super smooth flavor that is perfect for sipping.

Owned by the Campari Group, which owns many of our favorite premium spirits brands, this tequila is named after Mayahuel, the Aztec goddess of the agave. Only about a year old, the company’s goal is to deliver a rich and elegant blanco. And they do!

With their expert knowledge and passion for tequila-making, Mayenda is premium tequila that is perfect for crafting delicious margaritas and even better for sipping on its own.

Origin and Terroir

Each small batch of Mayenda tequila is made at Casa San Nicolás, in Arandas, Jalisco. You can check out their website to learn more about their special process designed to focus on and bring out the rich and sweet agave flavor.

The terroir, or the environmental factors that influence the character of the agave plants used to make tequila, plays a crucial role in shaping the flavor profile of Mayenda Tequila.

About Mayenda Tequila

In our Mayenda Tequila review below, we get to the nitty-gritty details of the flavor, where to find it, and how to serve it.

Ingredients

The main ingredient in Mayenda tequila is blue agave, which is grown and harvested in the heart of Jalisco, Mexico. Blue agave plants take several years to mature before they are ready to be harvested, making them a true labor of love. The rich volcanic soil of Jalisco gives the agave a unique and distinct flavor.

To create its exceptional tequila, Mayenda takes great care in its production process. The agave piñas (the core of the plant) are slowly roasted in traditional brick ovens, allowing them to develop complex flavors.

After roasting, the piñas are crushed and the juice is extracted. This juice is then fermented using natural yeast before being distilled multiple times to achieve a smooth and refined taste.

So while the ingredients might be similar to those used to make other tequilas, Mayenda is able to bring additional flavors through their process.

Calories

I couldn’t find specific calorie count information but typically 1 ounce of blanco tequila is about 64 calories.

Color, Body, and Aromas

Mayenda is a clear tequila that has mellow, clean aromas.

The website says it has “moon bright color, with a silky medium body and rich complexity”. I don’t know what moon bright color means but the tequila is complex in the most approachable way.

The site calls out a “rich aroma of honey, caramelization, and a touch of pepper”.

They also note wildflower honey, cinnamon and more subtle top notes of orange blossom and fresh grass for aromas. Suzy and I are not sophisticated enough to pull out those scents. We thought the smell was lovely, agave forward and like something you want to put in your mouth.

Alcohol Percentage and Agave Content

Mayenda tequila is 40% ABV (Alcohol by Volume). This ensures that you get that perfect balance of flavor and strength in your margaritas.

Packaging and Presentation

The packaging is sourced from Mexico, with labels made from 100% agave byproducts and a design featuring Mayahuel. Each bottle is also adorned with a copper medallion created by Mexican jeweller Mauricio Serrano.

With a sleek and modern silhouette, Mayenda tequila stands out on any liquor shelf or bar cart. While some specialty bottles go for a stand-out look that makes it cumbersome to pour and store, we loved the design of this bottle.

With an artfully designed label and delicious product, Mayenda is perfect for gifting to other tequila lovers.

Serving

The team at Mayenda suggests enjoying their blanco tequila neat, which means at room temperature. This allows for the flavors to really come through. We love to use our tequila glasses.

From their website – “For a richer, more intense tasting experience, we recommend serving alongside both a raw and roasted wedge of pineapple dipped in pink Himalayan salt. Take a sip of Mayenda Tequila, followed by a small bite of the raw wedge of pineapple, and repeat the same for the roasted pineapple to note the different flavors and aromas that each can bring out in the tequila.”

Suzy and I did a tequila tasting in Mexico (not of Mayenda but a few others) where we sipped and nibbled on a variety of fruits, chocolate, etc. It was a really interesting experience and for sure you should be sipping tequila with other things, not just lime. I can’t wait to try their pineapple suggestion!

If you prefer to sip your tequila chilled, that’s fine too. Shake it with ice in a cocktail shaker and enjoy it from a short cocktail glass or shot glass.

You can serve it over ice or “on the rocks” to dilute it a little.

And of course, you can enjoy it in a margarita or other cocktails (check out their cocktail recipe section).

Sip and enjoy responsibly. Sip slowly and savor the flavors.

While many aged tequilas (like anejo or extra anejo) are made for sipping, this blanco is one of our favorites to enjoy on its own.

Cost

Mayenda tequila is premium tequila with a premium price tag. At about $70 a bottle, it’s a bit of a splurge but totally worth it. While some expensive bottles look extravagant, often what you find inside doesn’t live up to the price. But if you are a tequila lover, I think Mayenda is worth the price.

Because Mayenda has such a pleasant flavor and is great for sipping, you may want to reserve this bottle for that and use something less expensive in margaritas. Or pair it with other quality ingredients like Grand Marnier for a more premium margarita situation.

Tasting Notes

The website calls our “undertones of baking spices, fresh herbs and pepper weave their way through caramelized agave notes.”

Suzy and I thought this tequila was savory more than sweet with a gorgeous agave taste. We both love a good blanco tequila over aged varieties so we really liked this bottle. It was easy to drink and full of flavor.

I got a little bit of heat on the back of my throat but it was from black pepper and not burn from the alcohol content. It was smooth and had a nice, clean after taste.

Where to Buy

Mayenda isn’t as easy to find as some well-known tequila brands.

  1. Look for Mayenda at your larger liquor stores. I found it at Total Wine.
  2. Online retailers: A quick search for the brand offered several online shops where you could purchase Mayenda.
  3. If you are having trouble locating the brand try to reach out via email or through their social media to see if they can help guide you.

Overall Rating

We gave Mayenda Tequila a 4 out of 5. To date, this is one of our favorite bottles. If the price was a bit lower I might have bumped this up to a 5. With a super smooth, agave forward flavor we really enjoyed this blanco tequila.

And while it doesn’t have any bearing on the taste of the tequila, we’re super into the aesthetic on their website. It’s gorgeous with great photgraphy, video and styled perfectly. We hope our Mayenda Tequila review gave you enough information to want to track down this bottle to try for yourself.
