Let’s make this refreshing Clase Azul Margarita recipe.

Why You’ll Love Clase Azul Margarita

You’ll love a Clase Azul margarita, especially if you are already a fan of traditional margaritas.

Using a top-shelf tequila brand (like Clase Azul) for your margarita doesn’t make the recipe more challenging. The steps are pretty much identical to making a classic margarita.

The flavor of each margarita changes based on what tequila you use. If you aren’t a big tequila fan, you may not notice the nuances. But we taste a lot of tequila and absolutely can pick up when a tequila changes the flavor.

Using high-end tequila that captures all the nuances and fresh flavors of the agave plant in your margarita is a tasty way to splurge and for those who know the price of the brand, they’ll know it’s an elevated twist on the drink.

You can read our full Clase Azul tequila review here. But overall it has a really smooth flavor. Because of the cost, you’ll only want to use this tequila in margaritas when you are looking for a high-end, elevated, celebratory margarita. Or save it for sipping.

Birthdays, holidays, and nights out with friends are perfect occasions to sip a delicious margarita with Clase Azul.

That said, Clase Azul tequila is crazy expensive; a bottle can easily cost you more than $150. That’s something to consider before trying to make this drink.

Ingredients

A bottle of Clase Azul Tequila Plata, Cointreau, and fresh lime on top of a counter.
Ingredients you need to make a delicious Clase Azul margarita.

To make Clase Azul margarita, we’re only using Clase Azul Tequila, so no brand swaps are allowed for this one.

If you’re wondering, “Is Clase Azul a good tequila?” The answer is yes. The flavor of the Tequila Plata is great especially when making premium margaritas (like Presidente or this Cadillac Margarita).

For orange liqueur, we used Cointreau. It’s one of our favorites for making various types of margaritas, as it helps give them balance. Cointreau’s slightly more sophisticated flavor profile and smooth texture fit well with Clase Azul’s quality. But of course, you can use the orange liqueur (like Triple Sec) you have around.

Lime juice is another essential for making margaritas. Since we’re upping the quality of our ingredients, you need to use fresh lime juice as much as possible. Bottled juices don’t quite capture the full essence and citrusy brightness of the real deal, which is a MUST when making Clase Azul margarita.

Lastly, we like to serve this cocktail in a margarita glass with a salted rim. The saltiness of the rim provides an excellent contrast with the taste of tequila and the flavors of lime. Plus, it makes your margarita more aesthetically pleasing!

How to Make A Margarita With Clase Azul

A woman dipping portion of a margarita glass in a small plate with salt.

Rim the Margarita Glass

Use a lime wedge to moisten the rim of your margarita glass. Then, turn the glass upside down before dipping it on a small plate with kosher salt, or coarse sea salt. Set aside until the drink is ready.

I prefer to wet just a small section of the rim so only a portion of the glass has salt.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Clase Azul go bad?

If left unopened, a bottle of Clase Azul (and other tequilas) can have a long, almost indefinite shelf life. However, once opened, it’s best to finish the contents within one year, or you might risk them losing their flavors and aroma over time.

How do you store Clase Azul tequila?

You can store your bottle of Clase Azul tequila on your bar cart for as long as it’s in a cool, dry area away from heat or direct sunlight. The bottle is rather tall so it may be difficult to fit it into a cabinet.

Can you reuse Clase Azul bottles?

Yes! You can (and should) use the beautiful bottles as home decor or even your own decanter. Try these fun and creative ideas for recycling them!
